:: 2018 - Pre-Season Update ::

Happy Spring everyone. Just a few notes from the managers meeting held on March 12, 2018.

  1. League Dues: $600 to cover all costs including banquet (DJ, food, awards, etc.) and league storage.
  2. Concessions: No (same as 2017), but it is available to teams to do fundraisers with the requirement that the coolers, bbq, and any items used be thoroughly cleaned when placed back into storage.
  3. Schedule:
    1. The league will start on April 22, 2018 and the league will be scheduled to play 14-regular season weeks
    2. The playoffs are scheduled for August 25-26, 2018
    3. No doubleheaders to be scheduled (assuming we have 10 teams)
    4. If we have 9 teams, one team will play a double header each week so we don’t end up with a team not playing every week.
    5. All subsequent games are scheduled for Queen Elizabeth Elementary (good ol’ FBL field) assuming there are no delays to the field availability current scheduled for May 1, 2018 as per the Vancouver School Board; Any changes to location will be dealt with on a week by week basis.
    6. April 22 & 29 we will be playing games at Prince of Wales (32nd/Yew)
    7. No rescheduling of games due to weather, player shortage, other league involvement conflicts, etc.
    8. The league schedule will be out once we confirm a 10th team. A 9-team schedule is also being prepped at the moment just in case.
  4. Bats: Previous years bats are being sold (2017 season bats: $75/bat; 2016 Season bats: $40/bat); All revenues will go to the league fund.
    1. $75: 2017 Bats Available (26oz sold out, 28oz sold out, 2 30oz)
      26oz and 28oz are both sold out
      2 x 30oz


    2. $40: 2016 Bats Available (2 x 28oz, 1 x 30oz)
  5. Helmets are recommended to be worn, although it is not a mandatory rule.
    Players need to understand the risk of not wearing one and the impact it may have on not only their own personal safety, but the impact to the other person who may be involved should they get injured/hit by a ball.
  6. Player Eligibility for Playoffs: we agreed that this is the new rule to be used going forward.
    1. To be eligible for the playoffs for the current year, a player must meet one of the following requirements:
      1. Minimum number of games played for the current season must be met - 1/3 of the games played in the regular season (Forfeits do not count as a game played); so if 14 games (2017 season) are played by a team, the player must play in at least 5 (rounding up to the nearest whole number).
      2. Minimum number of games from the previous season combined with an injury in the current season preventing them from meeting the minimum number of games in the current season; each case will be discussed and confirmed at the pre-playoff managers meeting each year.
      3. For New teams to the league in the current year, players who did not meet either of the two above stipulations will be voted on for approval by the league managers at the pre-playoff managers meeting prior to the playoffs.
