The day kick started with the upstart Canniballs taking on last year's 3rd place finishers, the Riddlers. A mismatch on paper, but as they say, that's why you play the games. The two teams got off to hot starts, both blasting 4 runs out in the 1st. The Riddlers then exploded for 5 more in the 3rd to take a 9-5 in the middle of the 3rd. The Balls then outscored the Riddlers 8-1 the rest of the way capturing their 2nd win in three weeks and improving to 2-8 on the season. The Riddlers fell to 4-6.
Next up was the Franchise at home against the Skeleton Crew. The Crew got off to a quick start, tossing 13 runs on the board in the first 3 innings, taking a 13-1 lead. From there on out, the Franchise scratched and clawed their way back into the mix by tossing a few tight innings, closing down on D, and punching some very timely hits. They plated 8 runs combined in the 6th and 7th, but in the end, it wasn't enough to unseat the league leaders. Final score: 17-10. The Crew stay perfect at 10-0 while the Franchise drop to 4-6 and tied for 6th with the Riddlers.
In the 1p match up, the Dawgs took out any and all frustration on the league's rookie team, spanking 28 runs and running away with the game 28-9. Lead by their middle infield defense, the Dawgs shut down any and all chances the Raiders had in trying to fight back into it. The Dawgs improve to 7-3 and sit in a 3-way tie for 2nd while the Raiders dropped to 1-9.
At 230p, we had the Nads and the Sexpos pair off. The Sexpos started off hot and kept the Nads off balance with great defense. In the end, the Sexpos kept pace with the Dawgs in winning their 7th game in ten tries. The Nads dropped their 4th in a row and now sit at 5-5, solo 5th.
The day wrapped up with the Marvels and the Aces meeting after 9 weeks when the Aces started the year off with a 13-9 win over the Marvels. This week, things went slightly different, as the Marvels doubled their offensive production against one of the league's best defenses. The Aces came in allowing a lowly 8.8 runs against per game, but the Marvels disregarded the stats and took to the air. With the win, their 2nd in a row, keeps them ahead of the suddenly surging Canniballs, but also closes the Marvels within a game of 6th. The Aces fall from solo second into a 3-way tie for 2nd at 7-3.
Please remember the FBL is on hiatus next week as many players and teams will be participating in the annual SPFK tournament at Riverway. If you're not playing, please come out and support the league members in their games, celebrate life with a beverage or two in the beer garden, and most of all - be there for 2pm each day for the Make-A-Wish Moment! Come understand what all this fundraising is for and meet those whom have gone through it first hand.
