Another week, another great day at the field. The match ups each week end up with teams being able to leapfrog teams with a win or drop a few spots with a loss. The joys of a very competitive league with some semblance of parity. A great way to say good bye the FBL Park for the 2017 season - see you next year under much better (field) conditions.
In the opener, Seymour and the Franchise dueled. The Franchise have been on the wrong side of a handful of close affairs this year, but managed to walk off unscathed with a solid 13-7 win over Seymour. The win improved the Franchise to 3-5 while the loss dropped Seymour to 2-7 on the year.
The Marvels, looking to bounce back after back to back losses, took on the ever dangerous Riddlers full-lineup. Being short staffed, the Marvels came up light against the Riddlers and fell 9-3, dropping their record to 2-7 on the year, 8th overall.
Next up for the Riddlers, they found themselves opposite the defending playoff champs, the Nads - who were coming in with a solid 5-2 record and only 1/2 game out of 2nd place. Well, the Riddlers had other plans for the Nads and bounced them down the standings with a solid 15-10 win. That win and double header sweep for the Riddlers improved them to 6-5 and into 5th place.
On the North side, the Sexpos and Canniballs took to the diamond and the Sexpos dominated the game, walking off with a sound 16-5 win. The Canniballs fell to 1-7 while the Sexpos upped the record to 6-2 sitting in 2nd place, 1/2 game up on the Aces.
Back on the south field, the Nads looked to redeem themselves after coming up short against the Riddlers in a match of two of the top defenses in the league. What transpired was nothing less than what should have been expected - a tight, defensive battle. The Dawgs used consistent hitting and timely stops to defeat the Nads 9-7, moving the Dawgs up to 6-4, passing the 5-4 Nads, good enough for 4th and 6th respectively.
In the finale, the battle for first was on the line as the Skeleton Crew and Aces paired up. A win by the Aces vaults them into 1st, while a loss drops them to 3rd. The Crew got off to a hot start, staking themselves to a 9-1 lead after 3 innings. Then, defense took over for both teams as 0s were put up for the next 3 innings. Finally, the Aces broke the streak and rallied in the top of the 7th, but came up short, falling 9-4. The win leaves the Crew at 8-1 and in 1st place, while the Aces sit at 6-3 - 1/2 game behind the 2nd place Sexpos.
Announcement: The Inter-League Challenge Cup has been cancelled due to lack of interest by the FBL players. Unfortunately, this is the 2nd year in a row this has happened - we'll see if it's even proposed again next year. Thanks for the 8 people who did register. Anyone who paid will have their money refunded by the League.
REMEMBER: We are at FBL U-Hill for the remainder of the season!
