This weekend was, in a single word, explosive! 200 runs were scored in 5 games! 200!
Let's look at that in more detail:
- Assuming 5 runs per each half inning, including the 7th and assuming the home team bats in the bottom of the 7th, 70 runs would be the max per game - and 350 would be the max for a weekend. So, those are the ultimate extremes.
- 200 runs means we averaged 40 runs per game
- 200 runs means a LOT of 5-run maxes
- The Crew and Dawgs totalled 27 runs combined, the lowest for any game this weekend.
- The Sexpos and the Canniballs combined for 50 runs, the highest total for any game this weekend.
- Avg Runs Per Inning thus far in 2018: 4.3
- Avg Runs Per Inning June 3rd: 5.95
- Avg Runs Per Game thus far in 2018: 29.5 (excludes forfeits)
- Avg Runs Per Game June 3rd: 40
- Avg Total Runs Scored Per Weekend in 2018: 134.5
- Total Runs Scored June 3rd: 200
- Even with all the runs scored, this weekend was average as far as average winning margin (8.8 vs Year Average to date: 8.4)
Now, onto the game summaries:
The opener has the Riddlers and Marvels starting things up and they got the ball rolling (literally) to the tune of 45 runs to start the day. Note - this is not the highest score first game of the day this season (24-23 - Sexpos over the Franchise). Things were all tied up heading into the 7th and the Marvels dropped a deuce (not literally) to take the lead, only to have the Riddlers hit back to back homers, including a walk-off by the handsome commissioner. The Riddlers improved to 3-3 while the Marvels lost yet another tight one, falling to 1-5.
Game 2 had the Dawgs and the Skeleton Crew in an expected defensive battle. Things started off hot for the Crew, take a very quick 5-0 lead and things didn't improve for the Dawgs. In the end, the Crew cruised to a 24-3 win, ending the Dawgs 3 game winning streak. The Crew continue to sit in solo 1st with a 6-0 mark. The Dawgs fall to 4-2 and sit alone in 4th.
This 1p-er reacquainted the fans with the run-love affair as the Sexpos and Canniballs went toe-to-toe. After being held score in the 1st, the Canniballs threw 21 runs across in the next 6 innings, but failed to stop the Sexpos offense, preventing a 5 run inning only once, in the 6th. As a result, the Canniballs fall to 0-6 and the Sexpos climb to 3-3, tied for 5th with the Riddlers.
In the 230p game, the Aces and Franchise took to the field and while they came up short on the average runs mark, they still tallied 34 times. The Aces used a few timely big balls and tightened up on defense to ward off the always game Franchise, 18-16. The Aces hold onto a tied for 2nd place with a 5-1 mark while the Franchise fall to 2-4 and sit in 7th.
The end of the day brought the Nads and the Raiders together and runs weren't lacking in this game either. The Nads started strong and finished stronger, pummeling the Raiders 28-16. The Raiders fall to 1-5 and sit in 9th while the Nads sit tied for 2nd with the Aces.
