Well, the second weekend of the FBL season brought some tough match ups and they did not let the fans down.
The early morning game had the newcomer-Raiders taking on the 2017 Playoff Champion Marvels. And in a offensive battle with some major long bombs hit (one over the school bus BEHIND the canoes), the Raiders pulled out their first win in the FBL, taking down the champs 19-18, leaving the champs winless after two weeks.
The late morning game paired two of the better defensive teams in the league and as expected, defense proved to be the difference as the Aces kept up their winning ways and knocking off the Dawgs 15-6. The Dawgs fall to 1-1 on the year.
The 1pm affair pitted the Riddlers and the Nads. Solid hitting on both sides left the pitchers scratching their heads and a back and forth battle resulted in a 17-13 victory for the Nads, claiming their first win of the season and knocking the now 1-1 Riddlers out of the undefeated ranks.
The mid-afternooner squared the Skeleton Crew off against the Sexpos. The Crew put up a tough defensive front and held the Sexpos in check for most of the game and a strong 5-inning first by the Crew allowed them to walk away with an 11-5 win. Twitter was on fire during the early part of the game as Sexpos slugger Mikey Dela-Cruz went down swinging. Signed copies of the scorebook are soon to be available on e-Bay. The Crew improved to 2-0, while the Sexpos fell to 1-1.
In the closer, the Franchise and the Canniballs closed things out in a close affair. Nasty rain clouds were looming, but the Franchise managed to put runs across consistently and held on against the vastly improved Balls and took the match 16-11.
Kudos to the Aces and their amazing Concession tent benefiting SPFK/Make A Wish. With warmer weather expected in Week 3, the Aces will be resuming their Concession stand! Bring your cash and get fed and watered. After all, it's for the kids. Here's the announcement from the Aces:
The Aces will be continuing their fundraising for SPFK next weekend! They will have Baileys and Coffee, Caesars, Beer, Hey Y'Alls, Swanky Frankie's, Burgers and Jello Shooters. Sharon will also have "all hands on deck" - after all, it's for the kids!
