Well, the weekend arrived under intense heat. Temps soared into the 30s, but with plenty of hydration and solid sales at the concession tent, all managed to survived the hottest weekend of 2016.
In the opener under pleasant skies and reasonable temperatures, the Riddlers squared off with the defending and undefeated champs - VC Marvels. The Marvels took an early 10-0 lead, but the Riddlers fought back to 10-8 before the Marvels dropped a 4-spot in the 5th and walked away with a solid 15-9 win. The Marvels continue to sit atop the standings, while the Riddlers drop to 7th.
In the late morning match up, a battle of 2-1 teams started as the Nads and Dawgs hooked up. The Dawgs jumped out to an early lead (7-3) and kept the pedal to the metal and finished things off with a sound 13-8 win to notch their third win a row and climb into 3rd place. The Nads fall to 2-2 and to 5th place.
Game 3 action saw the Kids and the Crew get reacquainted with Crew pulling out a tight 7-5 victory. Bats were not as hot as the temps but the defense was on for both teams as they battled out a defensive match up. With the win, the Crew improve to 3-1 and sit in a tied for 3rd with the aforementioned Dawgs. The Kids fall to 0-4, but their play is not reflected in their record.
The mid-afternooner featured the Aces and Seymour Results. In a David vs Goliath matchup, David fought hard and kept Goliath on his toes, but in the end, the giant was not slayed this time as the Aces wound up winning 12-6. With the win, the Aces even their record to 2-2 and pull into a tie for 5th with the Nads, while Seymour continue to seek for their first victory of the season.
And finally in the closer, the Franchise and Sexpos went tĂȘte-a-tĂȘte with the defending regular season champions pulling out a solid 11-7 win behind great defense and timely hitting. The Sexpos remain undefeated and tied atop the standings with the Marvels, while the Franchise drop to 1-3, despite only being outscored by 8 total runs in the 4 games. They continue to be a force to be reckoned with and not a team one wants to meet in the playoffs.
