Well the season opened under gray, but dry skies! Unfortunately, our newest league member was met with the unfortunate situation where their opponent forfeited 45 minutes before the game. Not a great start to the season. Thankfully, there were plenty of game- bodies available and the Canniballs managed to get a fun game together and sit atop of the FBL standings momentarily, undefeated!
Following that, another forfeit - as the Sexpos opted to take a forfeit as opposed to utilizing the Auto-Out rule as they had sufficient males, but only 1 female from their roster. As a result, the Aces were awarded the victory and both teams squared off in a meaningless fun game.
Oddly enough, the third game on the slate ended up being the official season opener, where playoff champions from two of the last three years met - the Skeleton Crew vs the Marvels. What resulted was a back and forth affair, lead by early season MVP candidate Simon Lee. In the end, the Skeleton Crew managed to claw back and throw up a 2 run 7th to take a 12-10 lead and held on as the Marvels cashed in one, but couldn't get another runner across the plate, leaving the final at 12-11.
In the mid-afternoon affair, the defending Playoff Champs wasted little time in staking their claim as THE team in 2017, taking down Seymour Results 15-4. The bats and gloves were solid for the Nads keeping Seymour in check for most of the game. Now, if the Nads can just get that Playoff Cup passed around a little quicker, everyone could have their day with the Cup BEFORE the playoffs start again this year.
In the weekend finale, the Riddlers squared off against the Franchise. Two teams looking to improve on last years solid records hooked up, but the Riddlers were the team to walk away with the win and the very early season momentum chalking (literally) up a 11-4 win.
On a league set up note - special thanks to Willy (as always) for his tireless efforts in getting gear to the field even though his team forfeited and helping set up the lavatories. For the teams responsible for the end of day clean up, if there were any issues, please contact House directly. There would have been additional things required to return as Willy brought some extra things just in case. Hopefully all garbage was cleaned up and the grounds were left as they should be - clean and free of any evidence that we were there.
