The first game of the season showcased the spunky Franchise squad against the defending regular season champions, the Skeleton Crew. Breaking in new bats, new players, and new attitudes - the teams battled it out with the Crew coming away with a 15-5 victory and catapulting themselves to the top of the early leader board.
The second game presented the new-look Canniballs team up against last season's 3rd place finisher, the Riddlers. A big mismatch last year on paper resulted in a much closer battle this year with a couple plays resulting in the scoring gap as the Riddlers bombed their way to a 15-4 win.
Game #3 matched the much younger Dawgs and this years newest entry to the FBL, the Oakwyn Raiders. The Dawgs showed no mercy on the new team, but had to battle back from a 1-run 6th inning deficit - dropping an unheard of 13 runs in the open-inning 7th, to blow open an other close game. The Dawgs finished up with a 23-13 win. Great competitive showing by the Raiders in their first game in the league.
The mid-afternoon game paired the 2017 Playoff Champion Marvels against the Aces - a true FBL donnybrook. The league welcomed back Brandon Martinez as well after his season ending freak-injury during the playoffs last season. The Aces and Marvels toughed one out in a game that displayed plenty of quality defensive plays. In the end, the Aces and their stellar infield play walked away with a solid 13-9 win.
The finale of Opening Weekend had the Sexpos and Nads butting heads. This one had plenty of bombs, diving plays, and a load of new faces for the revamped Sexpos. The result was a Sexpos win as they powered their way to a 16-11 win.
Special heads up that next weekend, the Aces will be hosting a BBQ and Wet Bar fundraiser benefiting the SPFK and Make A Wish. Bring your cash, bring your appetite, and bring your heart to support a great cause. From the Aces manager:
We're doing breakfast sammies, special coffees, jello shots, beverages, burgers and Swanky Frankie's (hot dogs stuffed with cheese and then wrapped in bacon)! Please let your teams know and ask them to bring cash as well as their appetite.
If they "forget" to bring cash I have no shame in asking them to e-transfer me. 😊 Also, we'll be doing a 50/50.
